York regional police have charged a Toronto man with multiple impaired driving offences after a fatal crash in Markham on Sunday.
The head-on collision happened at 9th Line and Elgin Mills Road around 9:20 p.m.
Police say the driver of a black 2010 Mazda was heading north on 9th Line when he crossed the centre line into the southbound lane. He hit the passenger side of a southbound grey Honda Odyssey.
The passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two drivers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Amrith Angunawela, 22, was arrested Monday and appeared in a Newmarket court that same day.
He was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, dangerous operation causing death, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, having a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams causing death and having a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams causing bodily harm.
